Sacred Geometry in Art & Interior Design

Oh my darlings! I have been away too long! This is going to be a bit of an epic blog then!
So lets start with sacred geometry and all things spiritual in the world of design...

I'm going to tell you a secret..when I was growing up, my dad was friends with one of the guys that wrote that huge bestseller 'The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail' basically a ground breaking work of conspiracy theory about secret organisations and the true identity of Christ etc... all very inflammatory I'm sure...but the point it that I have always grown up around weird stuff and 'out there' ideas. I'm not judgmental and think everyone has a right to their own truth. Infact I find sacred geometry, palmistry, tarot symbols, chakras, energy fields and all that stuff rather reminds me of my childhood. It all feels safe yet still mysterious to me.

I was inspired by all this stuff for my latest cushion collection and also by the very strong continuing trend in black and white interiors

So this is the 'Sacred Geometrics collection'

The first cushion is called 'There is More' and is double sided. It gently reminds us that there is more out there...more to feel, more to understand, more to know.

And the second cushion is called 'Esoterica' which is full of hidden knowledge and unexpected details.

Now I want to explore some of the truly fabulous things out there with strong geometric forms and a nod to the Sacred.
There are so many fantastic lights...

These are a lot bigger than you think! Sculptures - Pic from Burning Man Festival, hybycozo.com

I love this lacy effect. fab!

There is something about these forms combined with light that give a transcendent or otherworldly mix that is very powerful

I mean just look at this ceiling! Ceiling ornaments in a Bazar building in Yazd, Iran

And while we are marvelling we best remember that Mother Nature does it best!

I have to say that I really want this top! It has everything going on that I like...black, lace, weird masonic symbols. Yep!
And look at this lovely dress, there is some right proper sacred geometry going on there!

So what is Sacred Geometry? Let's go through this door and explore together...
Well here is a quote that might enlighten you...
SPIRAL - One of the most primordial shapes, the spiral is a globally positive symbol that is often associated with our spiritual journey. It reminds us that life does not happen in a straight line, but with twists and turns. This pattern can be found everywhere in nature and serves as a reminder of our connection with the universe."
But if that is too woolly for you, it certainly is too woolly for me, then try wikipedia...
...the study of sacred geometry has its roots in the study of nature, and the mathematical principles at work therein...
Hmmm...that's a bit too dry..
So my interpretation of sacred geometry is the study of forms and proportions found in nature and according to mathematical principles, that we find pleasing to the eye and soul.
Now lets lift ourselves out of this quasi theological quagmire and look at more pretty things!
